9: Can I use the panels indoors?

Solar panels generate electricity from light, so if possible, they should always be installed outdoors in direct sunlight. They can produce power indoors near a bright window. However, performance will be significantly reduced because:

• Window glass reduces solar irradiance
• Indoor light levels are much lower than outdoor sunlight
• A 540W panel may only generate a small fraction of its rated output indoors
• The panels are over 2 metres long and can be difficult to position effectively within a home
